When was the last time you had a ‘Hungry Mom’ moment and a wild craving in your head gave the order to satisfy your belly? It feels like you are not yourself, your hands move through the fridge by their own and suddenly you’re on a quest to prepare the fluffiest pancakes with bacon and maple syrup that your county has ever seen.

Yeah… cravings are awesome! But it’s mostly in your mind, because the majority of the times, the reality of the matter is, your body probably didn’t need that Cheetos bowl all covered in Ranch dressing and your homemade trail mix on top.

We truly believe nutrition is the foundation of a healthy body, so we want to share the benefits of avocado during pregnancy and 3 healthy snacks to hopefully fulfill your cravings (or at least one of ‘em!).

Avocados are a great way of obtaining good-fats, plus in them you can find vitamin C, K, E, B5, B6, dietary fiber, magnesium, potassium, carotenoids, lutein and folic acid; a load of vitamins and minerals your body needs while pregnant.

Remember your baby is a sponge of everything you’re eating and the best fuel you can give him or her will aid their development in the womb; for example, did you know avocados have one of the highest amounts of folic acid found in a fruit? Folate (or folic acid) is directly related to the baby’s neural development and prevents neural disorders.

Avocados can help you deliver those nutrients to your baby, which is why we selected 3 healthy and delicious recipes involving this fruit for you:

  1. Brain Power Smoothie: A quick-to-do and healthy for the brain smoothie using blueberries, 1 banana, pomegranate juice, chia seeds, ice, and of course an avocado (yep, you read that right… and it’s delicious!). Check out the full recipe and story at Gimme Some Oven!
  2. Caprese Stuffed Avocados: So healthy AND fresh, we love these! Stuff yourself with one of these and feel the taste of the Tuscany in your mouth; which is defined as a portable garden by Delish 😉
  3. Avocado Toast with Sweet Plantains and Feta Cheese: Good and tasty for any time of the day! There’s a special way you should pick your avocados and plantains, check what Hola Croqueta has to share about their recipe.
